We’ve got a whole bunch of “business leaders” that are working on our behalf. They’re doing something that’s not easy to do and can’t be done. One of my former colleagues, who we have called “The Three Levels of Self-Awareness,” has been doing this for a couple years now, so I have really enjoyed this group of people. It’s a great group to work with.
The big issue here is that most of you are either really busy or don’t know what to do. You can go and do something new all you like. Or maybe you just simply don’t want to. You’ve got to get out of your own way.
The one thing that I think we can all agree on is that business leaders need to do a better job of delegating. The reason most business leaders have trouble delegating is because it’s too difficult for them to do. If you are one of those people who never gives up, I’m here to suggest you look at using delegation. There are a number of ways to do it, which are all going to make you less of a pain to work with.
First, you need to take a few minutes and find a few of your own work areas that you and your team can work on together. You can ask your team to do something together, or you can ask them to meet up to discuss something you have in common. At the very least, you can just do something together to break the ice, so to speak.
You’ll probably find that you and your team are pretty much always talking about the same thing, so it’s a great way to break up the tension. In fact, if you’re not already, you should probably get together to talk about something else. Because as they say, the thing that makes you the person you are is what you do with that time you spend together.
The first thing to do is to break up the tension. Just say something you would want to do with each other at some point in the future (like maybe you could go to a concert together and share some tunes).
Most of us are able to do this because we’ve had to do it before. In fact, as an executive in a small business, I’ve been guilty of this before too. But I’ve learned how to break up the tension. I always make a point of saying, “I’m not going to spend this time with you today. We’ll talk later.
I don’t even really know what that word means. As far as I can remember, it’s just a word that comes up more than once in business conversations. I generally feel like I have a lot more control over what I say.
As you may know, I believe that business leaders should not be afraid to say no. Sometimes they can lose a lot of work. They may just not be able to take it. But in the end, they should never be afraid. Just because they say no doesn’t mean they are lying. I’ve seen that happen a lot in my career. The only difference being that I’m a little bit smarter about it.
In short, my opinion is that leaders should be confident in their decision making ability. The fact that they have to admit they are wrong shouldn’t be a reason to get too angry. We all make mistakes. We all need second chances. And as you’ve said, sometimes the best decisions arent’ always the right ones. But when a leader makes the decision hes not sure of, it makes sense to listen.
